Double Decker Coach Hire

June 19th, 2010 No comments

If you're thinking of hiring a coach for a special occasion or longer journey then why not think about making it a Double Decker? Whether it's for a corporate outing to an industry conference or for a large family gathering, or for a sporting event or a wedding party, there is simply no finer or more romantic way to travel. Coach travel is the cheapest and most environmentally friendly way to get around the UK and Europe - on a one-way journey from London to Edinburgh, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted per passenger is 339kg by plane, 129kg by car, 73kg by train, and only 53kg by coach. What many people forget is that it is also one of the most relaxing and fun modes of transport. And by 'making it a double' you can also put a bit of fun and romance back into your travel plans.

Double Decker buses have a long and proud history and are part of the very fabric of British life, from all the way back in the Industrial Revolution when they were first invented. Those first buses were drawn by two horses and had no roof on their upper decks. London General, (later London Transport) actually introduced them at the 1851 Exhibition of London, and it was not until much later in 1899 that the first steam-driven Double Decker arrived. Daimler then introduced the first petrol model shortly after. Leyland Motors went on to build more than 50 different styles of open top bus between 1919 and 1926. And by the 1950's Double Deckers had spread across the world, becoming more stylish and more comfortable. Indeed the 50's were the heyday of the Double Decker and it was during this period that the Routemasters came into service; the Routemasters famous design stayed around till 2005, with images of their iconic red shape and of the conductor hanging out the back in the breeze, becoming part of city, and seaside life.

Though the Routemasters are gone now, the new Double Deckers are still a wonderful way to travel. If you are planning a wedding or a day-trip for a large gathering of loved ones, or even something longer, like a ski holiday, there is no better way to see the sights. The features which come as standard with most Double Deckers these days will make sure your trip is more relaxing and exciting than either train or plane. From reclining seats and reading lights, curtains, air conditioning and tinted windows, to excellent toilet facilities, hot and cold drinks machines, fridges, stereo systems, DVD players and PA Systems, through to massive luggage storage abilities, there is simply no better way to travel. So next time you're planning your trip for a group or large family, go on, make it a double!
