The Chevy Camaro – Initially Little More Than Hobbled Together Chevy II’s

November 8th, 2009 No comments

It may seem surprising, many of the simple home of the venerable "muscle car" line of the '60s "Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro started its life as little more than cobbled together fairly standard Chevy II cars.

It was the doctrine of the Ford Mustang – a building just to make relatively inexpensive car, "off the shelf" products that are already in the series of Chevrolet and General Motors – that the "volume" family car. SizePlanning and production considerations led to a goal are available – the Chevrolet Mustang fighters "was closely related to the Chevy II automobile product line. Interestingly, the Chevy II is not originally a sales hit, compared to the Ford Mustang sister product – the Ford Falcon. But after a major redesign and re-engineering in 1968, this was not the case.

Product development and launch of the new Camaro was not the work of an individual but as a precursor of what was to- be the chain of command was divided into a number of levels and departments. On the other side of the original product as a Camaro published jointly the problems of the design committee involved – too many people and as well, and a major limitation in the styling of the basis for the car of the first essential condition of the goods – and its shares were auto – components with other Chevrolet and General Motors vehicles. What is the Camaro designers produced at the end – as a first generation –became an "F" car. In the mid-60s GM was focused on the styling, then what is the "flexibility" – that is the smooth, rounded lines was that simple, "flowed" called

But there were a number of advanced and construction decisions, which sell the Camaro even then. First, it was a critical engineering decision is made from the outset, was a front subframe in combination with the "unit" construction of the Camaro car product to use. Finally, it was consideredwith such a thing, that the practice as well as in 1969 Chevy Nova introduced. Under this setup was a rather unique approach that the sub-frame was isolated from the chassis by rubber inserts, or what will be known as "cookies" by the Chevy engineers. This technique was refined to more expensive European unit body cars before, including several Mercedes-Benz models and the larger GM Europe opals. But the Camaro was the first application of engineering for aLow-American cars.

Why is this development important for the car? First, one can say that the compromise was highly effective. Unit construction techniques allows for more passenger and luggage space than a body for a separate housing to meet fully developed. The relatively exotic rubber bearings, for his time, had held a much smoother, quieter ride as the cars and models, the sub-frame mounted directly with the big bodies. An example ofthis type of engineering and car manufacturing practice, the early 60's Chrysler products.

Another interesting engineering "trick" that was used in the Camaro project was the use of GM, which is a "cocktail shaker" – the shock absorbers at each end in harmony Camaro convertible. Their purpose was to torsional vibrations, the GM product testers encountered control and recognized in the early prototypes of the current prototype.

While most of the productDevelopment of the Camaro was well chosen, there were some difficulties and problems – that had to occur when the basic requirement was for the use of off-the-shelf parts and products – designed and intended for other GM products for the automotive industry. Under they had the choice of each sheet – rear suspension – is carried by the Chevy II and Old Toronado products. It was found that with large V 8 engines was considerably "Axle tramp" in hard acceleration.

Along with theseSales department was the urge to ask for smaller 14-inch wheels, "the lower car." One might expect that the outcome was in the real world of vehicle tax and Camaro owners leave, then what is known as "tail be bottoming under heavy loads .

Even for a product that began life as little more than a series of cobbled together "volume family car - the Chevy II platform had potential. The Camaro a solid and well thought outPlatform developed on which "The Camaro" developed and developed. The classic "muscle car" in 1960, "lives in the hearts and memories of many, many" car guys "and aficionados.
