Balancing Priorities of Career and Family

October 29th, 2009 No comments

Too often, we are also in the furor of building our business, profession, social networks, education and other activities, so we can catch a great future for our families. While we are on this way we see it as significantly undervalued. But in retrospect, our wisdom often seems questionable.

It was the 3rd September 1992, shortly after 1.30 clock, when I call to change a life.

"This is Crittenton Hospital emergency. It was an accident and you need to come here rightremoved. "She was short, to the point, and very authoritarian. I immediately headed for the door.

When I the hospital I noticed was approaching the entrance was blocked by demonstrators protesting something built on a new addition.

The corner of my eye caught a series of flashing lights at the next intersection, not more than two tenths of a mile ahead. Fire trucks and police cars had blocked the entire intersection. The main entrance of the hospital was just around theCorner, so I went to the lights.

Then I saw our family car on the crossing, now a jumble of mangled metal. Policemen went to my car, which was at that time, the acceleration in the direction of the crash site for free. I stopped and jumped up and shouted: "This is my car".

A sheriff's deputy led me to one of their cars and drove me through the pickets to the emergency room parking lot, where three sisters waiting for me.

"Wethink your wife is okay, but they let us check it. Her eldest son has some cuts to his forehead and will be good. My middle son is admitted, but they have obviously not all life-threatening injuries. "

She paused before changing my life forever.

"Her youngest son did not make it."

In memory of David, I ask you now consider a moment to review your priorities. Certainly, preparing for the future is important – but so is enjoying today. Give hardto find the right balance of priorities intended.

And in any event before the end of the day with your closest friends and family, I wish I could do with David – they say they love and give them a hug.
