Cars Users Get Raw Deal Relative to Rail
New research published this week, the extent of the raw deal that suspended drivers receive from the government.
The study of government spending on road and rail infrastructure shows that for each GBP1 of public money spent on the road, spent a massive £ 10 on the rail service is.
Consider that the expenditure on rail spending numbers on the streets around a factor of ten to one, if the actual usage is taken into account is particularly unfair, given the huge amounts of tax paid by carUsers per year.

While those two figures are roughly similar, campaigners say 36 billion passenger miles were travelled by rail in that period, compared with 465 billion by road.
The use of passenger miles means both the number of people travelling and the distance of their journeys are taken into account, to accurately reflect how each mode of transport contributes to keeping Britain moving.
Such a disparity in spending cannot even be justified on environmental grounds, since an Rail industry earlier report concluded that it can often be greener travel by car than by train.
The Railway Safety and Standards Board published study in 2007 confirmed that it was a journey of a family of three years, half of the emissions when the car than with modern diesel train was going to produce.
Balance with the public expenditure cuts looming large on the political agenda in relation to the state budget, this study shows clearly that there are cuts in spending that railshould come before hacking projects to improve the road network.
