Best American Cars of the Sixties
The sixties brought a revolution in car design and performance. Of course, if I live long enough, I think you'll see 1 / 4 mile 12 seconds electric cars that the auto boom may exceed cool sixties. There are many innovative things that have been tried in the 60s. The cars of the 1960s was the innovation, beauty and speed.
The early 1960s brought about the introduction of a supermini. The Plymouth Valiant, Dodge Dart, Ford Falcon, Chevy Corvair (rear engine), BuickSkylark, Pontiac Tempest, Olds Cutlass, Chevy Nova, and American Motors Rambler, were some of the automaker tries to a more efficient, easy to drive, less expensive car. I had a 1961 Pontiac Tempest with 3 on the floor and cut what is a V8 . It was a good little guy, and Candy Apple Red Corvair My aunt took the cake and feel with his rear-engined sports car. Darts and other Mopars ran over and so easy to maintain.
An innovation from the 60swas the introduction of the individual car manufacturers with a number of large, medium and small cars to meet the needs of America. Fins, Bullet Lights, push button transmission, better radios with 8-track or cassette players have been eagerly awaited by the public each year. Some even had turntables. The air conditioner also developed efficiency. Big and small block V8 grew and grew.
In 1964, 389 GTO three devils began the war of muscle cars. Some other favorites of mine were the1964 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 421, were the pre-1967 Belvedere and Coronet with Hemis, the 1962-64 Chevy Impala's nice too. A 1962 was a Ford Galaxie 292 Police Interceptor cool as in 1966 galaxy. You can not ignore all of 1960, Lieutenant in 1966 Stingray is my favorite. Of course, in 1964 half of the Mustang pony car revolution.
In 1967, a turnaround was kind of year. The 1967 Mustang GT with 390 was a little slow, but so smooth. Established in 1967, Camaro,The CTM was fast and very cool. 1968 brought the Dodge Scat Pack with the Dart GT, Challenger, and of course Coronet Super Bee and R / T in 1968 Charger R / T Hemi or 440 was one of my all-time favorites. It looked like a giant Manta Ray. What a sound, the 440 made. The GTO Judge, Buick Grand Sport and Hurst Olds 4-4-2 was very, very cool too.
I remember my best friend bought a Super Bee with 383 and I got a 440 Coronet R / T. Then, trying to outdo me, he got a 1969 MustangMach One (rated only 335 hp). I have a rare 1969 Mustang Police Interceptor. It was a Super Cobra Jet 428, with over 410 hp. and complete with transmission cooler, gears, cams, air shocks, and all from the factory. What a car! All black and no markings, hooded balls or anything.
It is clear that in 1970 it was the proportion of muscle cars, but the 1960's, in my opinion, the coolest cars ever had.
