Plane, Train, Bus Or Car?

October 20th, 2009 No comments

Should we take the plane?

You have to win somewhere in the 48 countries. Do you have an airplane, train, bus (there are still a few left) or your own automobile? Fuel is now a major expense, not only for you and your car, but for all. The airlines have been losing money for years mainly because of artificially low prices. Now they have jet fuel crunch. It's the old story: "So we lose money this year, we will be there next year." But that never happened. So nowthe cost had to go up ten dollars here, there twenty, all in an effort to look, as they did not really increase the fares. And they are still losing money. While fuel is now the major culprit, it's just one of many factors, the loss of the airlines face. But the real hook is the lousy service, unreliable schedules, and broken promises.

And that's not the end. Not long ago, almost all mid-town had great commercial aviation. The airlines are folding their wings and the abandonment of manythese cities, with disastrous consequences for the cities, its trade and its inhabitants. Where a few years ago, the government told the airlines to fly where and how much charge they now do pretty much anything they want.

Amtrak: coming of age, finally

Thus, air travel is no longer desirable choice. How about trains? Ten years ago it was cheaper and easier to fly when they take the train. Amtrak was losing money big time only to a few East CoastRoutes. Now Amtrak is cheaper and more convenient than an airline. Amtrak has not changed its fare structure – yet. The airlines have to have. But Amtrak services have a very limited number of municipalities. (These are the airlines soon.) If you are traveling with children, the choice is a breeze, Amtrak is a good choice. If you are traveling with baggage, Amtrak is likely to be the better choice (depending) on the size and weight. If there is a long trip, Amtrak isslower (in general). If it is a short trip Amtrak is often faster. But if we accept the long duration of the trip, Amtrak is certainly much more convenient.

So let's take the bus

Greyhound used to practically everywhere. They were an expression buses for long distance races and "milk runs" for the shorter runs. Then the government said Greyhound was too big and too much money to make (Transportation in the U.S. has unfortunately no cheaper than Greyhound!), So that they burstit. Buses will still the cheapest way. Reserved seats are on the bus were almost unheard of, you felt like you were packed in a sardine can, and almost nothing to be boring, like a bus. But they got you there cheap.

I could buy dinner for two, if I get a nickel for every time aboard, I heard someone say, "boarding a plane, now is like in a bus can be used." Buses are more comfortable now that the airlines and the airlines are constantly worse. So, perhaps theSolution is to take the train to the next city and then by bus to the destination.

Then we could take our family car

Then there's always the family car (or van or SUV). It will take you take you where you want to go if you want to go. You can stop off, eat the scent of roses, something that – you have a choice and most are under your control. Cost-wise, for the journey of 600 miles, for a family of four (two adults and twoChildren), your car, cost about the same as Amtrak. But Amtrak has to go where you want to go? For longer, overnight trips, the car is less expensive (you a room for a lot less than the cost of an Amtrak sleeper can maintain and, believe me, you do not try to sleep in their coach seats. In most cases , the car, again for a family of four, is much less expensive than the airlines. What about the bus? The bus wins economically, but a long journey withtwo children in a commercial bus is not very pleasant.

We take our RV

There is another option. If you already own a mobile home, and it is not a super-gas-pig (less than 8 miles per gallon), and then go on an overnight trip, the RV wins hands down. They have not (to be paid on a bed-and motel rooms and even the fare at $ 4 or $ 5 per gallon), which is not so harmful. How do you car with your family, you can stop off, eat the scent of roses, something that – youThe choice is yours, and most are under your control.

So what will it be: plane, train, bus or car? "No thanks, we will take our RV and enjoy life more. RVing is certainly not dead!
